Soham Dutta

I build software where interaction and intelligence meet — gesture-driven interfaces, NLP that shows how the same story gets told differently, and the database work underneath it that rarely gets noticed. Final-year Computer Science student, working mostly in Python across computer vision, data and machine learning.

Selected work

Four projects spanning computer vision, natural language processing, and the database work most portfolios leave out.

01

AuraOS

A gesture-first way to drive a desktop.

A gesture-first desktop interaction system for Windows 11. AuraOS reads hand position and shape through a webcam and maps it to cursor movement, clicking, scrolling, and an active-area mapping that keeps gestures precise across the whole screen — no mouse required.

Most human-computer interaction still assumes a mouse. This is a working attempt at replacing it with something the body already knows how to do — point and move.

02

NewsLens

How different outlets tell the same story.

An explainable NLP platform that compares multiple news articles covering the same event. It surfaces semantic similarity, sentiment, emotion, topic and named-entity analysis, and how narrative framing shifts across sources and over time. NewsLens doesn't judge what's true — it shows how the story is being told differently by different outlets.

Fake-news detectors try to rule on truth. NewsLens deliberately doesn't — it just makes the framing differences visible so a reader can judge for themselves.

CropConnect

Database work behind an agricultural platform.

An agricultural information platform connecting data to the people who need it. My contribution centered on the data layer — designing and implementing the MySQL database, writing the SQL, and building parts of the PHP/API backend.

The part of a platform nobody screenshots is usually the part holding it up. This was my introduction to designing a schema that other people's code actually depends on.

My contribution — MySQL schema design, SQL, and parts of the PHP/API backend.

Virtual Mouse

Cursor control from a bare hand.

A computer-vision virtual mouse that tracks hand landmarks in real time and maps finger position and pinch gestures to cursor movement and clicks — a smaller, focused predecessor to the interaction work in AuraOS.

Built before AuraOS, as a smaller proof that hand-tracking could be accurate enough for real cursor control before committing to a full desktop system around it.

About

Soham Dutta

I'm a Computer Science student who likes building things I can actually run and test, not just design on paper — mostly in Python, across computer vision, data analysis, and machine learning. I'm drawn to projects that turn an unfamiliar technique into something concrete: a gesture you can perform, a comparison you can read, a query you can run.

I'm still early in this — most of what I know, I picked up by building and fixing things that didn't work the first time. That's the approach I bring to every project: get something working, then make it better.
